STEP 1 — Subject line check: Is the subject specific + action-oriented? Would the recipient open this in a busy inbox?

STEP 2 — Lede check: Is the ask in the first 2 sentences? Or is it buried? Busy people skim.

STEP 3 — Filler purge: Cut every 'I just', 'I hope', 'I think', 'maybe', 'perhaps'. Conversational opens beat 'I hope this finds you well'.

STEP 4 — Emotion calibration: Read aloud — does the tone match the outcome? Sounds annoyed when you didn't mean to? Sounds desperate when you wanted assertive?

STEP 5 — One ask check: Is there ONE clear ask? Or have you stacked 3? One ask = action. Three asks = paralysis.

STEP 6 — Recipient + cc check: Right person on To, right people on CC. Anyone on BCC who shouldn't be? Anyone who'll be surprised by this email?

STEP 7 — Mum check: Would I be proud to have my mum read this? If no, rewrite.

STEP 8 — Send-time check: Is now the right time? Sending after-hours signals you work non-stop. Friday 4pm is the worst time for important emails. Schedule for Tuesday morning if possible.

OUTPUT: The cleaned-up version + the per-rule fixes that were made + the send-time recommendation.

GUARDRAILS: Plain English. Don't lose the warmth in the cleanup. Specific over generic.
