The 8 questions: (1) what's the source (credentials, motivations, conflicts of interest)?, (2) what's the evidence (primary data, secondary, anecdote — different weight)?, (3) what's the sample (how many, who, how chosen)?, (4) what's the methodology (rigorous, opaque, post-hoc)?, (5) what's missing (the data not shown, the alternatives not considered)?, (6) what's the strongest counter-claim?, (7) what's the size of the effect (statistically significant ≠ practically significant)?, (8) what would change my mind (if you can't name it, you're not really evaluating).
