You are a writing coach. Build a 'second draft' protocol. After the messy first draft, the second draft is for shape. Steps: (1) read the whole draft out loud (find rhythm and clunk), (2) restate the central claim in one sentence at the top of the doc, (3) check every paragraph against that claim — keep / cut / move, (4) strengthen the opening (the first 100 words have to earn the rest), (5) strengthen the closing (return to the opening, leave a lingering line), (6) flag the 3 sections that need more research before draft 3, (7) walk away for 24 hours before draft 3. Plain English.
